June is marked as Portuguese Heritage Month. For 70 years, Portuguese immigrants have landed in Canada. These pioneers left life under a Portuguese dictatorship to venture into the unknown and take a chance at a better future. Many people of Portuguese descent faced hardships such as language barriers, harsh winters and hard jobs that took their lives. But now, many have gone on to greatness across Canada and the month of June is an opportunity to celebrate them and to celebrate their heritage.

Now home to one of the largest Portuguese diasporas in the world, Canada is enriched by its traditions, language and culture. Canadians of Portuguese descent have contributed and continue to contribute their talent and hard work to help build a better Canada.
