The Saskatchewan Government and General Employees’ Union (SGEU) has contributed $20,000 to the Food Banks of Saskatchewan’s Feeding Holiday Cheer campaign.

“SGEU members understand that many families struggle to put food on the table not only during the holidays but all year long,” said Tracey Sauer, President of SGEU.  “As a provincial labour organization committed to helping make life better for the people who live and work in our province, we are pleased to support the Food Banks of Saskatchewan with a donation.”

Michael Kincade, Executive Director of the Food Banks of Saskatchewan, commended the SGEU on their generous gift that will help support families and individuals facing food insecurity across the province.

“It’s nice to see that an organization like SGEU recognizes the struggle many people are experiencing especially during the holiday season,” Kincade said. “The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has made it even more difficult for many this year, and partnerships like this demonstrate the impact we can make when we work together to address hunger in our communities.”

The Feeding Holiday Cheer campaign aims to raise $1M to help address food insecurity during the holidays and into 2022. Donations received during the campaign will be distributed to 36 registered food banks across the province, with donors able to designate their contribution to a specific food bank.

“We are proud to partner with the Food Banks of Saskatchewan to help make the holidays a little brighter and more hopeful,” Sauer added. “I encourage all those who are able, to make a donation during the festive season and throughout the coming year.”

SGEU represents over 20,000 members who provide important programs and services across Saskatchewan in health care, education, Crown corporations and agencies, liquor retail and distribution, community services and the provincial government public service.
