Donation will help make life-changing wishes come true for children with critical illnesses

REGINA, Sask.—The Public Service Government Employment (PS/GE) Bargaining Unit of the Saskatchewan Government & General Employees’ Union (SGEU) is donating $27,267.48 to Make-A-Wish Saskatchewan to help provide comfort to children with critical illnesses.

The PS/GE Bargaining Unit has organized annual fundraisers for the children for the past 15 years. The long-standing commitment to fundraising for the Saskatchewan chapter of Make-A-Wish (formerly Children’s Wish Foundation) stems from members’ desire to ease a difficult time for these children and their families.

“Our bargaining unit has been committed to bringing moments of joy to children who are facing extremely tough circumstances,” says Lori Bossaer, PS/GE Negotiating Committee Chairperson. “Through our annual golf tournaments, 50/50 draws, and silent auctions we have raised a total of more than $175,300 over the past 15 years to make children’s dreams come true.”

Today, Lori Bossaer, Justin Priel and Mac Trost met with Tamara Kerluke-Holowatuik, Make-A-Wish Saskatchewan Chapter Development Officer to present a donation of $27,267.28. With this donation, Make-A-Wish will be able to support three children’s dreams. The dreams children have range in size and cost and all donations—and other forms of support—are appreciated.

The PS/GE Bargaining Unit’s support for children’s dreams also extends beyond financial contributions. In the past, SGEU members volunteered to put together a playground in a child’s backyard. The child woke up from a nap delighted to find that their wish had been granted.

“We have 219 kids waiting for their wish to come true, with the average cost of $10,000. We are forever grateful for community support and fundraisers like SGEU,” says Toye.

“I know SGEU has been a long-time support of helping wishes come true in our province of Saskatchewan. Together, we create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. We could not do it without the critical support of organizations like SGEU.”

Make-A-Wish Saskatchewan is the primary recipient of PS/GE’s annual fundraising drives. The PS/GE Bargaining Unit’s budget also allocates financial donations to other charitable organizations.
