PRINCE ALBERT – The Saskatchewan Government and General Employees’ Union (SGEU) leadership will be driving a trailer full of supplies to aid their members and others who are fighting the wildfires that are currently threatening northern communities.

“SGEU members are putting themselves in the path of danger to save our homes and communities,” said SGEU President Tracey Sauer. “We’re bringing necessary supplies, support and solidarity to help these heroes get through the days and weeks to come.”

The trailer will be carrying 2,400 bottles of water, 1,800 bottles of Gatorade, 2,400 sticks of electrolytes and cooling towels. SGEU has approximately 500 members who are involved in fighting the wildfires. Even more members are providing support services to firefighters and evacuees.

“These union members are braving brutal conditions like extreme heat to serve us,” explained Sauer. “Their fellow 19,000-plus members are proud to donate these supplies to assist as many of them as possible. We also extend our gratitude to Sherwood Co-op for partnering with us and assisting us with some of the cost. This is what can happen when we all work together.”
