How to enter

  1. Create an original drawing on 8.5 x 11-inch paper that responds to the question: What would you like to be when you grow up?
  2. Mail or drop off the entry to the SGEU head office at 1011 Devonshire Drive, Regina, SK S4X 2X4 by 5:00 PM (CST) on October 14, 2022.

Rules and regulations

Eligibility

  • Children entering the contest must have a parent or guardian who is a current SGEU member in good standing.
  • Proof of age will be required prior to winners being announced.
  • Only those entries received by 5:00 PM (CST) on October 14, 2022 will be eligible to win.
  • One entry per person.
  • Each entry must contain the original work of the child.

Note: Children or dependents of SGEU Employees, Administration Committee members, Provincial Council members are not eligible to enter.

Age categories (as of December 1, 2022)

  • Age 5 and under
  • Age 6 – 9
  • Age 10 – 12

Entry period

The entry period begins on September 6, 2022 at 12:00 PM (CST). The entry period closes on October 14, 2022 at 5:00 P.M. (CST).

SGEU reserves the right to disqualify late entries or those where age of entrant cannot be verified. SGEU bears no responsibility for late, lost or stolen entries.

Timeline

  • September 6 – Contest opens for submissions
  • October 14 – Deadline for submissions (11:59 PM)
  • October 24 – Winners contacted and asked to provide proof of age
  • October 27 – 13 winners announced
  • December 1 – Calendar goes on sale with proceeds to SGEU scholarships and bursaries

Entry requirements

  • Each entry must be on 8.5 x 11-inch paper. Entries on other sizes of paper will automatically be disqualified.
  • Do not fold, roll, mount, laminate or frame your entry.
  • Do not write your name or address on your picture.
  • Include a separate page with your full name, age, birthdate, address and phone number. Include the name of your parent or guardian, who must be a current SGEU member in good standing.

Winners

Four winners from each age category for the monthly calendar photos, plus one overall winner for the calendar cover will be chosen.

Selected winners will be contacted by e-mail (using the e-mail address provided in their entry) to verify entry details. The winner will have 48 hours to respond, otherwise an alternate winner will be chosen.

The contest will be judged by a three-member panel that includes one representative from SGEU Provincial Council, one representative from SGEU’s Education and Publicity Committee, and one representative from the SGEU Communications team.

The winner will receive a prize pack from SGEU.

Agreement to rules

Entries become the property of SGEU and will NOT be returned to participants.

By accepting the prize, each winner hereby further consents to SGEU’s use of the winner's name, age and town/city of residence, as well as their parent/guardian’s name and Sector, for advertising and other promotional purposes, in any media or format, whether now known or hereafter developed, including but not limited to the Internet, at any time in perpetuity and worldwide, without further compensation or notice to any such winner.

Entries may be subject to verification and may be declared invalid if they are reproduced, falsified, altered or tampered with in any way.

By participating in the contest, each entrant fully and unconditionally agrees to be bound by these official contest rules and the decisions of SGEU with respect thereto, which are final and binding in all respects.

Notwithstanding any other provision contained herein, SGEU reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to modify, amend, cancel, suspend, reinstate or close the contest, at any time in whole or in part, without prior notification to any entrant, and for any reason whatsoever.

SGEU reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify any entrant from the contest if SGEU finds or reasonably believes such individual to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the contest and/or to be acting: (i) in violation of these Rules; (ii) in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner; or (iii) with the intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass anyone, including SGEU and its employees.

Each entrant acknowledges that SGEU or anyone else involved in the development or execution of this contest, each of their respective affiliates, and each of their respective directors, officers, employees, agents, representatives, successors and assigns (collectively, the "Released Parties") have not made, nor are in any manner responsible, for any warranty, representation or guarantee, express or implied, in fact or in law, relative to any prize, including but not limited to, its quality, merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose. Further, no responsibilities are accepted by any of the Released Parties for any additional expenses, omissions, delays, or acts of any government or authority.

The contest and these rules: (i) are subject to all applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws; and (ii) shall be governed exclusively by and construed in accordance with the laws in the Province of Saskatchewan, without regard to conflicts of laws principles. Any dispute not otherwise determined in accordance with the rules of the contest shall be adjudicated in the courts sitting in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Limitation of liability

Without limiting the foregoing, the Released Parties are not responsible for: (i) any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by entrants, or any third parties, or by any of the equipment, hardware, software or programming associated or used with the contest; (ii) technical errors, defects, delays or failures of any kind, including, without limitation, malfunctions, interruptions or disconnections in communications lines, Internet or website access, hardware or software; (iii) digital or electronic disruptions (e.g. security breaches); (iv) unauthorized human intervention (e.g. hacking); (v) technical or human error which may occur in connection with any aspect of the contest; (vi) any injury or damage to persons or property which may be caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, from a entrant’s participation in the contest, or receipt or use of any prize; and/or (vii) lost, incomplete, illegible or garbled entries, mail or transmissions, interrupted or unavailable network, server or other connections, miscommunications, computer viruses, bugs, worms, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, failed computer hardware or software or telephone transmissions, or other errors or problems of any kind whether electronic, mechanical, or human.

BY PARTICIPATING IN THE CONTEST, EACH ENTRANT HEREBY RELEASES AND HOLDS HARMLESS ALL OF THE RELEASED PARTIES FROM ANY AND ALL LIABILITY, INJURIES, LOSS, CLAIMS OR DAMAGE OF ANY KIND WHATSOEVER (INCLUDING DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES) ARISING FROM OR IN CONNECTION WITH: (I) PARTICIPATING IN THE CONTEST; AND/OR (II) ACCEPTANCE, USE, MISUSE OR NONUSE OF THE PRIZE OR PARTS THEREOF, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, LIABILITY FOR DEATH, PERSONAL INJURY, DAMAGE OR LOSS OF ANY KIND, AND FROM LIABILITY TO ANY OTHER PERSONS RELATING TO OR RESULTING FROM ENTERING THE CONTEST. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WHATSOEVER WILL THE RELEASED PARTIES’ LIABILITY HEREUNDER EXCEED $1.00 PER ENTRANT.
