LGBTQ2+ History Month is an annual month-long observance of the LGBTQ2+ community’s history and the history of the gay rights and related civil rights movement. It is celebrated in October to coincide with National Coming Out Day on October 11 and to commemorate the first and second marches on Washington in 1979 and 1987 for LGBT rights.

While Pride season is observed in Canada from June to September, LGBTQ2+ History Month is a chance to celebrate the diversity and inclusion of Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, asexual, pansexual and additional sexual and gender identities (2SLGBTQIAP+) communities and identities. LGBTQ2+ History Month presents Canadians with an opportunity to learn about the history, contributions and influence of 2SLGBTQIAP+ citizens and communities.
