March was declared Irish Heritage Month in the House of Commons in 2022. Irish Heritage Month celebrates Irish Canadians' contributions to Canada's story and serves as an opportunity to learn more about Irish-Canadian history. Irish Canadians have greatly contributed to the story of our country, and this month is an opportunity to learn about their history and positive impact.

There is a rich history between Canada and Ireland, which spans politics, business as well as culture. In the 19th century, Canada became a port of refuge for Irish people fleeing the Great Hunger.
