Bargaining Update – February 2024

Health Providers Bargaining Update

No. 3 – February 2024

Download a PDF of the bargaining update

Dear members,

Your negotiating committee met with the Saskatchewan Association of Health Organizations/Saskatchewan Health Authority (SAHO/SHA) bargaining committee on January 16 and 17, 2024 at our SGEU office in Saskatoon. Both parties came back with answers to previous questions and had conversations around other proposals.

As reported in the previous bargaining update, bargaining common proposals seems to be a top priority for SAHO. These are proposals that would be similar to those bargained by CUPE and SEIU-West. We compiled a list of what we perceive to be common proposals and presented it to SAHO on January 17. We will continue to discuss these items at future meetings.

To date, there has been no discussion on wages, premiums, benefits, recruitment, retention or workload. We feel these items are of the utmost importance to our members in today’s economy and work environment. Your negotiating committee has included proposals on several priority items, including shift and weekend differentials, standby pay, call-back and transportation rates.

Next meeting

Our next meeting is scheduled for February 27 and 28, 2024. Stay tuned for further updates.

Thank you

We have been fortunate to have a mild winter this year, and I hope everyone has been able to take advantage of it. The days are getting longer and we are having beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

As bargaining chair, I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our negotiating committee. Our members have done a lot of preparation, reviewing and research for this round of bargaining, which has meant more days spent away from work and their families. Thank you for your hard work!

If you have any questions about bargaining, please contact me at tschmidt@sgeu.org.

In solidarity,
Your negotiating committee
