(Prince Albert) – Saskatchewan people are standing up for their province and their public services in the face of wide-ranging and devastating cuts unleashed in the Sask. Party government’s recent budget, according to speakers at a rally in Prince Albert Friday.
Hundreds of people rallied in front of Sask. Party MLA Joe Hargrave’s constituency office to show their opposition to government’s attacks on public services and the people who rely on them.
“Saskatchewan people are paying the price for government’s mismanagement and overspending on high-priced consultants, costly mega-projects and shady land deals,” said SGEU Public Service Sector Vice-President Barry Nowoselsky.
“Hundreds of frontline workers, including government cleaners, the lowest paid employees in the public service, are being fired. Government is trying to force rollbacks on public service employees, cutting wages and benefits, hurting working families, and draining money out of local communities and local economies,” he added.
Nowoselsky took direct aim at Joe Hargrave, Prince Albert Carlton MLA and Minister responsible for STC, pointing out that he is responsible for the job losses in Prince Albert, and for the vicious cuts that will hurt the people he was elected to represent.
“Together, we are working to hold the Sask. Party government accountable, and to stop them from tearing down the public services and Crown corporations that Saskatchewan people worked so hard to build,” said Nowoselsky.
