Saskatoon Family Support Centre shut down; prevention services lost
The provincial government has quietly and unceremoniously shut down the Saskatoon Family Support Centre, a unique government-operated community-based service that has provided much-needed support to vulnerable families for almost twenty years.

Cancer Agency workers serve 48 hour strike notice
Workers at the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency (SCA) have given their Negotiating Committee a strike mandate. The collective agreement covering approximately 485 employees expired December 31, 2006. SGEU, representing the cancer agency workers, issued 48 hour strike notice today.

Citizens All workers ratify collective agreement
Workers employed by Citizens All, a Moose Jaw organization that provides residential and support services to people with physical and intellectual disabilities, voted to accept a tentative agreement reached last month.

Workers employed by Citizen's All, a Moose Jaw organization that provides residential and support services to people with mental and physical disabilities, will be setting up an information picket at the Legislature in Regina from noon to 3:00 p.m. today.

Government suspends whistleblowers
Two in-scope employees, suspended on April 4th by Saskatchewan Community Resources, have been treated unfairly, according to Bob Bymoen, President of SGEU. The two employees noticed what they considered to be irregularities in financial deposits and brought the problem to the attention of management.

Public Service ratifies contract
SGEU members in the public service voted 85% in favour of accepting the new collective agreement with the provincial government. Voting was held in 36 locations throughout the province from March 8 to March 28, 2007.

SIAST instructors ratify contract
Instructors in the SIAST Academic Bargaining Unit voted 92% in favour of accepting the new collective agreement negotiated with SIAST management. Voting was held at the four SIAST campuses from March 19 to March 22, 2007.
