This four-day course is for members who want to explore Aboriginal peoples’ culture and traditions, as well as contemporary issues and struggles facing Aboriginal peoples. In a safe environment, participants will learn how to challenge barriers to diversity within the union and the workplace.
Sessions include:
- Historical timelines
- Employment issues
- The legal basis for Aboriginal rights
- Explaining Aboriginal rights to union members
- Common visions and causes between Aboriginal and union struggles
- Building links between Aboriginal and labour communities
- Candid conversations with an Elder
This course (ULD 70) runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and 9 a.m. to noon on Friday. One day will also include a working lunch and an optional sweat lodge in the evening.
