National Aboriginal Day - June 21, 2012

National Aboriginal Day recognizes and celebrates the cultures as well as the contributions of the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples of Canada. The contributions of Aboriginal peoples have made Canada the rich and diverse country that we enjoy today.

As union activists, we promote fair and decent treatment of all individuals and believe that all people should be allowed to contribute to our society and economy. Everyone deserves a decent job with good wages and working conditions.

The SGEU FAIR (Fostering Acceptance of Indigenous Rights) committee actively ensures that all racial incidents concerning Indian and Metis members are positively addressed. It supports and promotes a representative workforce
through the co-operation of the FAIR Committee and other internal SGEU structures.

We encourage you to participate in the community events taking place for National Aboriginal Day. Also, consider geting involved in SGEU's FAIR committee. Click here for more information on the SGEU FAIR committee.
