Health provider unions disappointed in SAHO's unfair tactics July 2010

CUPE, SEIU-West and SGEU, the three unions representing 25,000 health care providers in the province, met with the Saskatchewan Association of Health Organizations (SAHO) today.  They were disappointed to be told SAHO refuses to bargain and continues to push for significant concessions and unfair pay reductions.

The Saskatchewan Government and General Employees Union announced today the successful ratification of a deal between its Public Service Sector and the government.  


The tentative agreement, announced last month included wage increases of 1.5%, 2%, and 2% along with employment security.

Tentative Agreement Reached in Public Service

SGEU has reached a tentative agreement with the Public Service Commission on behalf of its 10,000 member public service bargaining unit.

The parties have agreed to not release details of the agreement pending ratification of the agreement by the membership of SGEU. Therefore SGEU representatives will not be making public comments at this time.

Improvements welcomed, but crisis still exists in child welfare system

The child welfare system in Saskatchewan is still in crisis, but some improvements have been made since SGEU publicly raised concerns a year ago about risks faced by children in the care of the Ministry, says the union that represents front-line staff.

"Any change that means a child will be safer is a change for the better, so the news that there has been a decrease in the number of children living in overcrowded foster homes is welcome" said SGEU president Bob Bymoen, in response to the release of the Children's Advocate Progress Report on foster home overcrowding.
