EDUCATION - 2005/June: Ensuring a High Quality Apprenticeship and Training System in Saskatchewan
(last updated: 14 Jul 06)
SGEU believes that it is essential to maintain and enhance a high qualtiy apprenticeship and training system that meets the needs of apprentices, trainees and employers, and that will ensure that our province has skilled trades and technical workers to meet future labour market demands.

EDUCATION - 2006/July Voices from the Classroom
(last updated: 14 Jul 06)

HEALTH - 2001/July: Submission to The Standing Committee on Health Care (Fyke Commission)
(last updated: 14 Jul 06)
SGEU’s health care members agree with the Commission on Medicare that our health care system requires reforms to develop a sustainable system. It is our view that a publicly funded health system is still the best method of health care delivery. It is essential that any plan for change be well-researched and clearly thought out, so as not to repeat past mistakes of formulating great ideas without much thought going into implementation.

HEALTH - 2002/March: Brief to the Commission on the Future of Health Care (Romanow Commission)
(last updated: 14 Jul 06)
As Saskatchewan residents, we are proud of our accomplishments in healthcare. As proud pioneers of national Medicare, we not only see the need to maintain existing services covered under the plan but also to extend services to reflect the demographic and cultural changes our society is experiencing now and into the future. Health care is not confined only to the costs of hospitals and physicians, it has expanded to include drugs, home care, long-term care, community and mental health services.

WASCANA CENTRE - 2003/February: The Future of Wascana Centre Authority
(last updated: 14 Jul 06)
Wascana Centre is an urban park located in the centre and southeast area of Regina. A Board of Directors, appointed by the province, city and university, manages Wascana Centre Authority (WCA), which was created in 1962 to oversee the area. Funding is provided by the three partners on the basis of 55% from the province, 30% from the city and 15% from the university. Funds for WCA have decreased, remained the same or increased marginally in 14 of the last 16 years. Funding levels in 2002 are lower than the funds allocated in 1981, resulting in staff and program cuts over the years.

WASCANA CENTRE - 2006/February: Progress Report on The Future of Wascana Centre Authority
(last updated: 14 Jul 06)
Increased funding for staff and equipment is necessary if WCA is to adequately maintain the recent improvements to the park, as well as maintain the park over the long term. The funding partners must approach current and future funding arrangements with a view to sustainability.
